College Sailing All Americans Announced in Virtual Awards Show

ANNAPOLIS, M.D. (June 12, 2020) – This evening in a Facebook live broadcast on the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) page a virtual awards ceremony took place announcing the ICSA 2019-20 All America Team. The names of the winners will be added to the ICSA Hall of Fame displayed at the Robert Crown Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

A committee of representatives from the various conferences in the ICSA selects the ICSA All America Team. This year’s committee is: MAISA: Ian Burman (chair), Brian Clancy, MCSA: Geoff Pedrick, NEISA: David Thompson, Bill Healy, PCCSC: Brian Swingly, SAISA: Ward Cromwell, SEISA: Charles Higgins.

To select an All American skipper, the committee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships. The committee analyzes how this record compares to fellow competitors, the quality of the competition the record was achieved in, and results achieved competing with different crews, the span of the record over the fall and spring seasons, and how the record compares to previous All American winners.

Evaluating using these criterion presented a little challenge this year for the committee due to the spring sailing season cut short by COVID-19.

Update: Remaining 2019-2020 Season Cancelled Due to Covid-19

The ICSA Executive Committee has voted to cancel the remaining 2019-2020 College Sailing season.

For Immediate Release:

The Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) remains committed to the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and our communities. Considering the recent decisions and actions of many member schools, the ICSA Executive Committee has moved to suspend Interconference Competition from now through weekend 10 (April 4-5). The ICSA Executive Committee will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information and guidance, including weekly updates. The ICSA Executive Committee will make decisions on ICSA Interconference and National Championship events based on information provided by the CDC, region and local health authorities, and host schools. ICSA Procedural Rules will continue to apply. The ICSA remains hopeful that we will be able to resume competition later this spring.
