Although officially week 2, the first weekend of college sailing in SAISA offered a nice runway into the spring season with just a few events on the calendar. Attending their first out of conference regatta in a few years, the revitalized Tars of Rollins College delivered a strong showing on behalf of SAISA at the Harris Kempner Memorial Regatta hosted by Texas A&M Galveston. Led by a dominant performance in B-fleet by the first 2019 SAISA Co-Ed Sailors of the week, skipper Teagan Walsh, and crews Corinne Keogh and Cooper Anderson, Rollins College earned a 14-point win in B-division, outpacing the Texas Longhorns, as well as other teams from SEISA including the host TAMUG. Walsh, Keogh, and Anderson marked the outstanding performance for SAISA sailors with no race finish higher than 4th, an average of 2.1 on the day and 4 bullets in route to the division and regatta win. Congratulations Teagan, Corinne, and Cooper.

Each week of the season, we’ll recognize outstanding performances by sailors across SAISA, as well as by SAISA sailors in competition out of conference. The selection process includes a nomination period each week ending on Sunday. A committee of SAISA coaches from both divisions selects sailors from the nominations received and will announce the SAISA Sailors of the Week early each week following the close of the nomination period. If you’d like to submit a nomination, email the sailor’s name, school, position, and what events or circumstances they demonstrated outstanding performance to SAISAsotw@gmail.com. Nominations close on Sunday at midnight EST and selections will be based on performances for the preceding week and that weekend. Selection categories may include co-ed skipper, co-ed crew, women’s skipper, women’s crew. Pairings or individual sailors may be nominated or selected.
