Brown Women’s Team Race Team named NEISA Women’s Sailors of the Week

Providence, RI– April 13-14, 2019- The Brown University Women’s Team won the 2019 Women’s National Team Race Invite in an impressive fashion this past weekend.  The Bears bested the 13-team field with a record of 17-2.  It was a team effort for Brown, with skippers Ragna Agerup (’20), Sophie Hibben (’19), and Hannah Steadmen (’20) racing with crews Abigal Konys (’19), Maxine de Havenon (’19), Emma Montgomery (’22), Meghan Malpani (’19), and Emily Ito (’19).   Depending on the conditions, the five crews switched onto the starting team, and also switched between the three starting skippers.

This was the second year for the Women’s National Team Racing Invite.  It was extremely competitive, and proof that women’s team racing is growing and thriving.  Brown did finish 3 wins ahead of second place Dartmouth (14-5), but they had several close races that they were able to convert on the final beat.  Races in the final round of 8 were intense, and several sail-offs were held at the end of the round to break ties.
