College of Charleston ACCs Open Squad and NC State Women Earn SAISA Sailors of the Week Honors

Gusty and wet conditions greeted sailors to the Charles River for the Atlantic Coast Championship Open Qualifiers at Harvard and MIT, but this didn't stop the College of Charleston squad from delivering competitive finishes and qualifying for a spot in the ACC Finals. Congratulations to the Cougars' Noah Zittrer (So., Clear Falls, TX), Lucy Klempen (Sr., Kingshill, USVI), Emma Tallman (Sr., Torrance, CA), Aidan Iaconis (So., Greenwich, CT), Ben Dufour (So., Geneva, CH), Chloe Hudgins (Sr., Jensen Beach, FL) and Garrett Grenauer (Sr., Buffalo, NY) on securing SAISA Open Sailors of the Week with their strong performance.

Back in SAISA in the shadow of the USS Yorktown, the Charleston Fall Women's Interconference welcomed sailors from SAISA, MAISA, and the MCSA for a combined division event. With two days of outstanding conditions, plenty of current, sunshine, and tight racing, NC State's women took the lead on Sunday morning and never looked back earning the regatta victory. Congratulations to the Wolfpack's Olivia Sowa (Sr., Hollywood, MD), Abby Scudder (Sr., Swansboro, NC), Isa du Plessis (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL), and JC Minchew (Jr., Clinton, NC) on the win and earning SAISA Women's Sailors of the Week honors.

About the SAISA Sailors of the Week

Each week of the season, we’ll recognize outstanding performances by sailors across SAISA, as well as by SAISA sailors in competition out of conference. The selection process includes a nomination period each week ending on Sunday. A committee of SAISA coaches from both divisions selects sailors from the nominations received and will announce the SAISA Sailors of the Week early each week following the close of the nomination period. If you’d like to submit a nomination, email the sailor’s name, school, position, and what events or circumstances they demonstrated outstanding performance to SAISAsotw@gmail.com. Nominations close on Sunday at midnight EST and selections will be based on performances for the preceding week and that weekend. Selection categories may include open (co-ed) skipper, open crew, women’s skipper, women’s crew. Pairings or individual sailors may be nominated or selected.
