Rodriguez, Harris, DesChamps, and Ruth Earn SAISA Sailors of the Week Honors

Florida State University skipper Mateo Rodriguez (Sr., Winter Haven, FL) and crew Avery Harris (So., DeLand, FL) are the SAISA Open Sailors of the Week after leading the Seminoles to a victory at the Eckerd Interconference Regatta this past weekend, as well as posting the low score for the regatta, winning A-Division with a scoreline nearly half of the second place Princeton Tigers. Out of 16 races across two days, Rodriguez and Harris earned 9 bullets, 6 second-place finishes and no finishes worse than 4th on the weekend. Across the peninsula in Daytona Beach at the SAISA South Spring Tournament for the Gregg Popp Trophy hosted by Embry Riddle, Jacksonville women's skipper Ella DesChamps (So., Wilmington, NC) and crew Payton Ruth (Fr., South Bend, IN) earned SAISA Women's Sailors of the Week honors after winning B-Division and helping the Fins secure second overall in the regatta. DesChamps and Ruth started the event with three bullets, undefeated in the first rotation and earned podium finishes in two of the final three races and no finish worse than 4th for the event. Congratulations to this week's SAISA Sailors of the Week!   

Larson, Friend, du Plessis, and Sowa earn SAISA Sailors of the Week Honors (Week 1)

Skipper Adam Larson (Sr., Charlotte, NC) and crew Jacob Friend (Jr., Raleigh, NC) are the SAISA Open Sailors of the Week after placing first in A-Division at the SAISA Spring Open Top 18 Invitational Regatta at Eckerd College and helping the NC State University Wolfpack earn the overall regatta victory. The pair finished in the top 3 positions in seven of the ten races sailed, secured three bullets (first-place finishes) and finished no worse than 7th in any race during the weekend. In similar fashion, NC State skipper Isa du Plessis (Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and crew Olivia Sowa (Jr., Hollywood, MD) are the SAISA Women's Sailors of the Week after placing first in B-Division at the SAISA Spring Open Top 18 Invitational Regatta and posting the low-score for the regatta with just 26 points over 10 races. With no finish worse than 5th, seven podium finishes, and three bullets in 10 races, du Plessis and Sowa helped the Wolfpack secure the overall regatta victory. Congratulations to this week's SAISA Sailors of the Week!  

Mitch Brindley Awarded the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Trophy

 On February 2, 2023, ICSA President and Head Coach of Old Dominion University Mitch Brindley was named recipient of the Nathanael G. Herreshoff Trophy. The Herreshoff Trophy is US Sailing’s most prestigious award. After being donated by the National Marine Manufactuer’s Association in 1957, this award is given out annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of sailing in the United States in any associated activity.
