Sailors of the Week, Weekend 4, Fall 2014

***Fanning is the NEISA COED SAILOR OF THE WEEK***

Niantic, CT – 9/29/14-Coast Guard Academy’s Avery Fanning ‘16 won the NEISA Men’s Singlehanded Championship and is NEISA’s Coed Sailor of the Week.  Fanning was dominant, winning three races and scoring in the top three in nine of the twelve races sailed.   Conditions were generally light, building to 8-12 knots for the final races.  Fanning’s Conference Championship victory qualifies him for the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship in November.

***Klingler and Rossi De Leon are the NEISA WOMEN’S SAILORS OF THE WEEK***

Boston, MA – 9/29/14-Yale University’s Casey Klingler ’18 and Isabelle Rossi De Leon ’17 won A-division at the President’s Trophy and are NEISA’s Women’s Sailors of the Week.  Klingler and Rossi De Leon averaged just two points per race in the extremely light-air conditions on the Charles River.  Their A-division victory propelled the Yale Bulldogs to the overall regatta win.

AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Yale’s Joseph Kiss ’17 and Malcolm Lamphere ’18, along with Roger Williams’ Martim Anderson ’18 rounded at the top four at NEISA Men’s Singlehanded Championships and qualified for Singlehanded Nationals along with Avery Fanning.  MIT won the St Mary’s Fall Interconference Regatta, while home team Tufts won the Hood Trophy.  URI won the Salt Pond Invitational and BU took home the Mid-Week Fly Regatta.
