Singlehanded National Champions: Stefano Peschiera & Sophia Reineke

Congratulations to Stefano Peschiera (Senior, College of Charleston) and Sophia Reineke (Freshman, Boston College) who won the Men's and Women's Laser Performance Singlehanded National Championships this weekend sailed in St. Petersburg, FL.

Fall National Championships

The 2017 College Sailing Singlehanded National Championships on November 4-5 will be hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club and University of South Florida St. Petersburg at St. Petersburg, FL.

The top 18 men and top 18 women singlehanded college sailors have qualified, based on quotas, through the seven national conferences and will compete in provided new full rig Lasers (men) and Laser Radials (women) on Tampa Bay.

Four of the top five from the 2016 Men's Nationals have returned, with Scott Rasmussen '20 (Boston College) looking to defend the title over Gerald Williams '19 (College of Charleston),
Nicholas Baird '19 (Yale University), and Stefano Peschiera '18 (College of Charleston).

While 2016 Women's Nationals winner Erika Reineke '17 (Boston College) has graduated, the rest of the top four from last year are ready to take over from the 4-time winner. Haddon Hughes '19 (Georgetown University) had won the 2015 title, but to win again she must topple rivals Kelly-Ann Arrindell '20 (College of Charleston), Lindsey Baab '18 (Brown University), and Dana Rohde '18 (U. S. Coast Guard Academy).

Week 8 College Sailing News

The Fall Nationals Championships are just around the corner, and competition is heating up around the country. #4 Hobart and William Smith won the War Memorial regatta (MAISA), #1 Yale won the Victoria Coffee Urn Trophy (NEISA), #10 MIT won the Professor Schell Trophy (NEISA) and #3 Charleston won the SAISA Fall Coed regatta.
